Hello all. I did my first extract brew (a scaled down version of GW's summer lightning clone)about a week and a half ago. I've left it alone until tonight when I opened it up to take a reading. It's down to 1.016 (from 1.040 I think) and tastes fine. The problem is that when I opened the FV up I noticed a few lumps floating in the beer. I'm assuming these are lumps of spraymalt that i didn't mix in well enough, and that they aren't a big deal to worry about. Am I right in these assumptions? What's the best way to make sure the spraymalt is all fully dissolved?
Cheers!

Re: Lumps floating in my brew
It might be spraymalt or it might be cold break material. I've found a good way to get those last annoying lumps to dissolve is to press them against the side of the boiler with a spatula. Once they're flattened they seem to dissolve almost instantly.
Best wishes

The lumps are normally a mix of break material, hop material, copper finings and yeast. Don't crush them back into the beer as this might produce unwanted flavours in the beer. If they really bother you then get yourself a sterilised sieve and skim them off.
Re: Lumps floating in my brew
I have found this when I have used the contents of an opened packet of yeast from a previous brew that had been kept in the fridge.Never when using a new un opened packet ? the lumps look like small pieces of cork. I had to sieve the beer before bottling.

Cool, cheers guys. I'll just make sure I don't transfer any to the bottles/keg.
