First and Last Extract Brew!

What a Pain! Never again!
Just made the `Geterbrewed Extract APA` that I won on the free raffle on JBK.
I am so used to making Kits, Bish, Bash, Bosh, done in 30 mins!
This Bloody thing, 30 min Grain Steep, 60 min Boil, Keep an eye on the Boil, etc, etc.
I just found the whole thing boring and time consuming!
No problems with the Brewing process, SG 1040, Hops supplied Magnum bittering, Centennial and Chinook Aroma.
Great Smell and Taste from the Trial Jar!
Will keep you updated as Brew progresses!
At least my brand new 19Lt Pot will come in handy for some big curries!
And my Gas bill has probably increased by £40!

I would taste the finished product before you say "never again".

Yep, it's likely you will change your mind when you taste the end result (or maybe you should do an all-grain brew, then extract will seem lots easier!)

The key to these things is experience. Your first one or two are hassle because you don't know how long it will take to get to the boil, or what dial position gives a good rolling boil, and you probably end up rushing around trying to find the right spoon/funnel/jug/hose/thingummy/wotsit.

Once that lot is grooved you can relax a little and although you can't really leave it alone you can do other stuff during the various stages.

But there is no denying it is more work. Hopefully the results will make it worthwhile.

Yeah Right!
Like doing the washing, tumble drying, empty dishwasher, do the dishes and still keep an eye on this bloody boil thing!
Do the dishes means that there are not enough to go in the dishwasher and they are p$ssing me off on the sink when I
want to get a Brew on! I think MrsAles left them there on purpose knowing that with my OCD they would get done!

Lol, I'm currently 45mins through the boil of AG#10, and as you say freezing my arse of in the shed!

Certainly no time to get bored though

Just bottled my dark lager today @1011 after 2 weeks . Been a bugger trying to keep the thing cold enough for the yeast to work but obviously it has . 2 days at room temp now then into the fridge it goes for it's lagering.

I felt exactly the same after my first extract brew (The Way to Amarillo) , I really couldn't see that it was worth the effort or the time ( 4 hours of a Friday night trying to get a rolling boil on the electric hob). After I tasted it I changed my mind, Its well worth the effort, not long after I went to doing all grain, a year on and over 40 all grains under my belt I occasionally do an extract brew, I am drinking one now. It produces very good beer , don't knock it till you try the end product.

Just reading the thread and as mentioned before I bet you'll be tempted to do another or move up to BIAB or AG if the results are loads better than your usual brew.

Only 5 days in the bottle but it looked sooooooo nice, I had to have small taster bottle!
No Head, flat as a witch`s tit, Lovely taste, smell, Clarity, etc, etc!
