Summary on my OP
Negatives:-
It handles like shit.
I have no control of the malt base of beers that I maybe want to brew.
Reported...No documented evidence, that it might go off.
If I want to brew a different style of beer, eg stouts/porters/milds etc I would have to do a partial mash, which defeats the whole process in the first place

Positives:-
No mashing
No sparging
Cuts a brew day down to 90 mins

And forgot to mention, my two brews, that I have done using LME, have a turn over of 3 weeks

There is a reasonable selection of LME here, certainly for most beers I can think of...

I always buy 20KG DMEas it stores well and LME can turn molded through air in the partly used container .the dry stuff is easier to handle and pour into the brewing vessel. For oneKG of pale grain I use 75% ofLME or65%of DME.i get the dry extract from Bintang , Indonesia, and it is very cheap.

A bit late to this thread but I absolutely know where you are coming from johnnyboy. I did Extract brewing for many years before moving to AG, everyone said "you won't look back when going AG" but I was underwhelmed and think my beers were as good with Extract as they were with AG. The only thing with AG is you can use a greater variety of malts. I've now settled on a half-way house technique: I do a mash but top it up with 1kg DME which means I can do everything BIAB on the hob with a smaller volume and quicker cool-down time.

One thing I would say is that the quality of LME is variable: I had some brews with the dreaded homebrew twang, and one brand of LME in particular produced this every time. I never had it with Coopers LME. But Coopers is expensive, so I moved over to DME and never had the twang. If you keep an eye out with the various homebrew suppliers you can get 1kg of DME for under £5, whereas LME is nearly a tenner a tin.

Hi all
A bit late but I only brew using LME and have made very drinkale ales at between 4.5-6.0% I do often use 3-4 different hops. I just do not have time for AG I have added some early malts which do not really add much.

So its varying quantities of LME, hops, dry yeasts , fitered tap water and a campden tablet.

Happy Brewing

Happy brewing indeed. We all find our own sweetspot and there is no one way.

I gave up on the brewDAY idea too. I let nature and time do the heavy lifting now. Setup, Mashing & pitching all on separate days.
Couple of hours in total, do you think that would keep up with using extract?

I use LM all the time and make great ales my own combinations of hops 4-5 ales on rotation in my 6' x 3' shed brew outside under a gazebo.

DME is good jut need to use a bit less that LME but I never bother, I do have two insulating jackets to maintain temperaure and use 2L lemonade bottles filled with salt water frozen to lower the temperature. Bit old fashioned but it works.
Happy brewing

Yikes!😱😱

I know we are seeing a bit of inflation on prices at the moment. My two sacks of malt were £40 this time... But this comes in about £26 per brew
