Post by Rookie » Sun Feb 09, 2020 7:07 pm

I got some Great Western brumalt to experiment with and did this yesterday.
2 lbs (.9 kg) golden light dme
8.5 ozs (238 g) maris otter malt
6 ozs (168 g) brumalt
1 oz (14 g) pale chocolate malt
1 oz (14 g) victory malt.
.2 oz EKGs
I'm just here for the beer.

Sounds interesting (just been googling :) ). I've never come across Brumalt before.

It's made by Great Western and fairly new on the market. G. W. gave some to Denny Conn to try out and he shared some with me.

I took a gravity reading after a week: 1.040-1.009. I took a taste and detected a moderate sweetness and decent body for a 1.009 beer. I sometimes brew something similar with Crystal malt(s) instead of brumalt. I prefer this version.

This turned out pretty good. It had a nice honey-like taste to it. I'm calling it a pale mild. I want to do it again, but with more victory and pale chocolate to do a dark mild.
I used S-189.
