Hi all, it's been many many years since I made a home brew beer and I think I made a mistake so would like a second opinion please...
I tried a mangrove jacks golden lager kit
https://mangrovejacks.com/products/gold ... h-dry-hops
I just realised I forgot to add the hops, but no bother there.
I added 500g dextrose and 500g light spray malt instead of the suggested 1kg dextrose/brew enhancer. The fermentation started over night and after 2 or 3 days was really strong, constant bubbles through the airlock and after day 5 slowed and by day 6 essentially zero. Last 3 days I haven't seen or heard a bubble.
I checked the SG and its meant to be 1.006 but I'm getting 1.020
Anyone had this kit before and experienced the rapid fermentation?
Think I made a mistake - advice needed please

Hello fluff,
What was SG before putting in the Yeast?
It might not have finished fermenting yet, check with the hydro 3 days in a row.
Leave the hydro in the beer, it won`t hurt.

Another mistake, I didn't check it before... I moved the brew bucket onto.a worktop to drain off a sample then moved it back to the original room and it's bubbling again at normal rates .. weird.
Let's see what happens over next days !

How would you guys read this SG, 1.012 ?

Apparently it should be 1.006 ?
Going to measure again tomorrow and see if its changed.
If same I plan to bottle in a day or 2 and add 1 tsp granulated sugar per litre .

fluffy,
Don`t worry about the 1006, 1010 is the normal aiming point.
Looks ok to me.
Have you thought of batch priming? Easier than putting sugar in the bottles.

Hi thanks for reply, sorry for all the questions.. its been about 10 years since I tried a homebrew kit and forgot everything.
Batch priming, yep thats what I remember I did in the past, I have a second bucket ready and will siphon off from the top to reduce any sediment.
Will it help if I put the fermentation bucket in a cold room first ?

fluffy,
No need for the cold room.
Do it if you want to.
