Hope there's no hose pipe ban this year Kev.

I was reading Adnams website the other day and they were calculating IIRC something like 3.2 pints for each pint brewed. That is amazingly efficient and unlike you I haven't worked it out but suspect I'm like most homebrewers and don't even think about efficiency and consequently come nowhere near their best practice.

My nod to green is to send my plate chiller water into the pond, however couldn't do that today as the pipes were frozen. Brewday started 1/2 hour late as I had to defrost the outside tap with a hairdryer. Took no time to cool the wort though.

Yes you buy the equipment but it'll always have a good re-sale value when ya belly gets to big. :roll:

Of course, for a commercial it makes a lot of sense to send plate chiller output to the HLT as it saves water and energy (water is already heated for the next brew). For a homebrewer it's trickier to do this (since usually you don't brew frequently enough to warrant it, and it'll go cold!).

it all depends on what you brew your beer with, all grain or mixed with white sugar
at the moment (in packs) a can of john smiths is about 65p a can and a can of stella is 90p from the shop
Wondering if there was a way we could compare this to the home brew

Comparing by price you would compare price by volume.
Comparing by mouth is not something I would like to try, having drunk John Smiths and Stella in cans once was all I needed to be "cured".

Some people play golf, some go cycling or build model railway layouts.

It just so happens that the by-product of my hobby produces a delicious (so far) pint of ale :)

I enjoy making beer so much I may even do it if there wasn't any beer at the end of it - but then I may be exagerating a tad. :D

after reading the OP i was already calculating what i had spent on beer last year and the equipment cost came in at about £500, but thats got me basic plastic brewing kit 6 cornys 2 gas bottles regulators 4tap font all fitted in thru to a 4 ine chiller, and as i worked out that i brewed about 480 pints, its add just over a quid to each pint i brewed. still a damn good bargain.

comparring tins of Jsmith n stella to the last pint drawn from a corny is like comparing tweed to silk.
ist update for months n months..
Fermnting: not a lot..
Conditioning: nowt
Maturing: Challenger smash, and a kit lager
Drinking: dry one minikeg left in the store
Coming Soon Lots planned for the near future nowt for the immediate :(
