having used voile on extract brews I have been looking at alternatives that are a bit more rugged and manly! Came up with these as a suggestion. Look like they could handle a big grain bill. Obviously would look for unlined types, and am aware that would need a good boil pre-use to leech out any unwanted flavours.
Any comments.. and any ideas of non industrial suppliers?
Reckon if viable you might only need a couple for a lifetime

Stick with Voile, jute is just hessian sacking.
Pros:
None
Cons:
Natural fiber so will rot and probably fail when most stressed which will no doubt be when lifting from the kettle. Dangerous to say the least.
Weave will be too course leading to trub issues
"There, the fibres are softened with selected oils, water and emulsifiers", as quoted from the linked website. Doubt if these chemicals/oils are food grade.
You will need a couple in a lifetime, with voile you will only need 1.
Doubt it can be just thrown into the washing machine after use.
Sorry mate but voile really is unbeatable, even if it is a bit girly..

Avoid organic material for the BIAB bag, it will decay and bust, whereas voile is durable and will last for ages, it is near perfect for the job.

Not got a Boyes in your neck of the woods? they sell it as net curtain, used mine for loads of brews, I clean it by hosing it down over the washing line.
