I don't think I would be allowed to brew in the kitchen either. I use the garage for the same reason, for some strange reason my wife can't stand the smell of hops!!!

90 minutes of boiling does put out a fair bit of steam though.
The garage is a better place to do it any way. While waiting for the mash/boil I can potter around in the garage doing blokey things in peace. Or just sit there staring out the window having a cold one. :)

If I was in the kitchen I wouldn't get any peace at all.

My shed and garage are home to too many beasties in the form of spiders, woodlice, chrysalises and so forth. It'd be unfair on them to start brewing there. Besides, the crap might get wafted into the brew - god only knows what wild yeasts there are knocking round there.

Nope - the only was is in the house, in the kitchen. Whilst making bacon butties, for preference.

I'm sure when you present a rational argument to your spouses they will see the light....... :^o

I did my first BIAB in the kitchen but we have no extractor in there so I ended up with brown streaks coming down the walls before the end of the boil. I can't brew in my garage either for the same reason SteveB mentions. I'm relegated to the decking outside.

Think I'm lucky SWMBO likes the smell of brewing (though doesn't drink it). First stovetop BIAB I did I did end up with the streaky walls but since then make sure I get a flow of air from the kitchen window to the living room window and haven't had the issue again *touches wood*

i find that with the patio doors open (if the wind is in the right direction), and with the extractor full on in the kitchen and a bloody big fan in the right place I achieve a pretty good circulation. No streaky walls, and not much smell in the rest of the house (a shame - I like it! Other half, doesn't).

My Mrs is from Burton On Trent so grew up with the smell of yeast/brewing so manage to get away with sticking brews on quite regularly.
