wish me luck!
Re: wish me luck!
2 elements will get you to the boil quiet a bit quicker and use the same amount of energy, it will make for a shorter brewday!
Re: wish me luck!
...so if i buy 2 value kettles and a fermenting bin,cut 2 holes near the bottom and mount the elements, that would be a decent 'brewbin'? im confused as the purpose built boilers are around 70 quid, which is kinda out of my budget.

Well here's a pic of my 1st boiler, exactly like you said but with a ball valve tap and copper pipe as a hop stopper.
This boiler worked perfectly for 22 AG brews, untill I took the elements out to make keggle.
Just be careful to keep the elements clean between brews

Re: wish me luck!
I found what looks like the same bucket as mine here http://www.unimac.co.uk/plastic-contain ... -122-p.asp for £16.50; cheaper than Colchester Homebrew where I got mine. To be honest, if you have the skills then making your own is a no-brainer, but only if you are confident you make it in a safe manner. Shrouding the terminals is the tricky bit (well, was for me) and the shrouds cost as much as the kettles! Whatever happens make sure you run it on a circuit protected by a RCD.

Re: wish me luck!
as to having the skills to make one,i have none..im at making stuff like that and my knowledge of electrics is none or not worth knowing
,so im thinking it would be good if there was a website selling ready made home-made brew bins that are still much cheaper than your purpose built electronic boilers and big tea urns.
i think i has 2 choices..to try n find someone who can make me a home made on to buy off, or to start saving up for an elctric boiler.

Re: wish me luck!
Paulg, it is just a standard cheap sleeping bag, rectangular rather than tapered. It's a tight fit so the zip helps a lot. I put it over from the top and then roll it back up again so it's a double layer.
