1st Sticky moment

Post by noble ox » Tue Nov 08, 2011 9:55 am

Hi All :D
After some hardware issues ( not having the correct regulator) I finally started my BIAB outside
The plan was the" London pride "recipe from Dave lines book..............I added 12 % extra grain to make up for my lack of good mashing techniques
Everything went to plan including keeping mash temp :D the rolling boil went well, cooled down with home made cooler (no leaks which surprised me) I transferred to FV via jug and voile cover, pitched S04 yeast started day before I was pleased with 1051 OG now fermenting away.
I am glad I chose a 50l copper as it helped to stop any splash overs,Just spent 1 hour cleaning all the stickyness from everything before SHMBO returned =D>
I hope it tastes as good as it smells

Nice one noble ox! 1051 is a good OG. Should make a nice strong london pride... Do you have any pictures to post?

Result of the brew
I kegged it after 7 days in FV then 7 in the sin bin (clearing keg) primed with correct sugar then left it till I could not stand any more.(impatience)
It tasted good lots of body and hoppy. I did not need to add any extra co2 being a top tap I thought I would have had to
The only criticism was the hoppy after taste in my throat and roof of mouth any ideas on that ?
I enjoyed the venture from start to the last precious pint
All part of stepping up the" Learning Kerb" :D
Seasons greetings to all

Sounds good to me - the hops will mellow out after a couple of weeks - I had the same respose when I started brewing my own.

Now I can't stand pub fizzy stuff - give me a home brew and a big hoppy taste and I'm well happy.
