Does anyone sell biab kits?
I know brew uk sell pre made extract kits do you get exact amount of hops grain etc and I think it's the malt miller does pre made up all grain kits but does anyone do biab recipe kits ?
Re: Does anyone sell biab kits?
BIAB is just a simplified way of doing All Grain brewing. As such, it's still a form of All Grain brewing. So pretty much every all grain kit is readily usable in BIAB.
You just mash all the grain, pull the bag, bring to a boil and chuck in the hops as normal...

But if you bought a 23 litre ag premade kit and only have a 19 litre pan the biggest you could biab is 15-16 litres isn't it
Re: Does anyone sell biab kits?
Do BIAB brewers get lower efficiencys? so you may have to reduce the brewlength to suit your system anyway and you can allways liquor back to your desired volume if you pan is small.sbond10 wrote:But if you bought a 23 litre ag premade kit and only have a 19 litre pan the biggest you could biab is 15-16 litres isn't it

Re: Does anyone sell biab kits?
I think they get similar mashing efficiency s but I'm not sure. Just most ag s recipes have a 23 litre final brew volume and start out with an initial water volume of 30 litres. We're as most biab finish at 12 litres and start at around 18 litres so I'm just very confused

That could be a plan I was thinking of doing but wasn't sure it would work
Re: Does anyone sell biab kits?
An average 23L brew will start with a mash liquor volume of around 13L. (2.5L of liquor per kg of malt).
If you buy a 23L ingredients kit and brew it for a smaller volume or using a more inefficient process than the assumed efficiency of around 75% then all the non base malts such as crystal, chocolate or roast barley with be out of scale to the finish volume and there will obviously also be too many hops supplied in the kit and it will end up too bitter.

Re: Does anyone sell biab kits?
To BIAB and get 23L out of a 19L boiler you will have to use the MAXI-BIAB technique. Look at this link Here for a great tutorial. The guy who wrote it is an active member here and has brewed gold medal winning beers using this method.
Have a read and post any questions you may have. What are you looking to brew ? is it your first one ?

I wasn't nessesarly looking at going for a 23 litre brew but obvistly 23 litre is better than 12. And as of yet I haven't fully decided what to brew I have 100g of challenger hops in freezer and I happen to know santas bringing me some crystal malt and chocolate malt

Re: Does anyone sell biab kits?
Not when BIABing. For a true full volume biab you use all your water in the mash, when Maxi-BIABing you use as much as your kettle will handle, sparge with 3-4L of the remainder and top up during the boil and use whats left to do a post boil dilution to hit your Volume and OG. Check out the guide linked in my post above for a more detailed explanation.DaveSmith wrote:An average 23L brew will start with a mash liquor volume of around 13L. (2.5L of liquor per kg of malt).

Boingy if I ask for a bigger pot ill need a bigger stove too. Just read thru that guide sounds easy enough basically I'm mashing dragging the grain out throwing it in a bucket with 4 litre s of boiling water. Turn on heat on when your huge pot starts boiling throw your 4 litres of 2nd mashed wort into this and repeat again for a 3rd mash ?
And recipe wise a nice simple recipe with a sweet finish any one any suggestions

Re: Does anyone sell biab kits?
I have recently started AG BIAB and just use the recipes as they are in the books, I get to the 23L no problem (starting woith 33L in a 50L pot). I don't adjust quantities and so far the SG was spot on. Yet to start creating my own recipes.gnutz2 wrote:Do BIAB brewers get lower efficiencys? so you may have to reduce the brewlength to suit your system anyway and you can allways liquor back to your desired volume if you pan is small.sbond10 wrote:But if you bought a 23 litre ag premade kit and only have a 19 litre pan the biggest you could biab is 15-16 litres isn't it
