Colander

Post by bluezephyr » Tue May 06, 2014 5:25 pm

Just bought a stainless colander 16" that will sit on my 50L pot. Does anybody use one? I intend to drain the bag in it while this is sat on top so I can get boiling the wort quicker.
Not many for sale that size on eBay but hopefully will save some hassle trying to suspend the bag over my dedicated wort collection 99p Asda washing up bowl!

Where do you brew?. As I do my stuff in shed I've bought a cheap 200 kg pulley system,on a movable parachute strap harness, and hung it over a rafter. Beats strain, but obviously not much good in a kitchen!
Just like trying new ideas!

At the moment I brew in the utility/conservatory but will be brewing in the garage soon.
Just thought the colander would save messing about with ropes and pulleys.

I use one, but a regular kitchen sized one as I only mash with about 3kg of grain.

I think by the time I get into batches needing pulleys I'll buy a mash tun and use gravity...
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

I bought one a while back after getting splashback when the normal kitchen one slipped, but haven't used it yet. Not much use I know, but when I get round to brewing again I'll let you know how it went.
Fermenting: Nowt

Strange suggestion but what about a washing up bowl with 2 mm holes drilled into it ?

A sturdy washing up bowl might work but by the time you've bought anything decent the £13 for the colander in stainless seems a better bet.
