Belgian wheatbeer full of sediment/non-transparent?

Post by lenna » Fri Nov 21, 2014 10:03 pm

Hi, I am very new to beer making. I made my first beer following the BIAB method and everything went according to plan. It is 3 days since then and the beer seems to be fermenting alright; the only problem is that it not transparent at all and it looks as if it is full of sediment (not just at the bottom). Is it too early and will it clear up later or there is something wrong?

Good job! Belgian Witbier is supposed to be hazy/cloudy, that's a function of the special yeast and an important aspect of that style of beer.

Clarity is overrated, enjoy as is! Plus, you'll get more vitamin B and probiotics this way. :)

Thanks! My boyfriend just told me the same thing and I feel stupid for not being aware of that :p I 've always liked Hoegaarden/Leffe type of beers but as I don't usually bother with pouring the beer to a glass before drinking I haven't noticed whether it's hazy or not. I am looking forward to trying it now!

Don't feel stupid at all. Clarity is often a big concern of new homebrewers, because they're familiar with crystal-clear mass-produced beer, but those have a lot of flavour and body filtered-out in the process.

Welcome to brewing and welcome to Jim's, by the way!
