Fermentation Temperature

Post by Greendan » Thu Mar 19, 2015 11:18 am

I put 2 brews away to ferment at the weekend. One is a kit brew and the other is my first BIAB. I don't use temperature control and have brewed kits successfully for 4 years.

This week however we're having new windows fitted. This means the temperature in our house has dropped significantly and I'm concerned this may stall fermentation. If it does, will raising the temp back up be enough to restart the process? Would pitching more yeast be a good idea? The krausen on both beers has fallen already, so fermentation definitely started.

Get yourself a builders trug big enough to hold the FV, buy a fish tank heater circa 50w, fill with water around 20 c and lob in the heater. Check the water from time to time to see how accurately the heater is maintaining the heat and relax.
