Wasn't aware of that option, thanks!

Right this is next up for me.

I'm working from the DIY Dog recipe, scaled up to 23L from 20L published.

Managed to get the right hops, all of them in pellet form.

Hop timings are only given as 'start/middle/end'. 60 minute boil is suggested for ales generally in the book; I doubt the flavour hops are being added at the literal middle (i.e. 30 mins), so will add them at the usual 15 or 10 minute stage.

Citrus peel - "add as much grapefruit and orange peel as you dare" - argh... The citrus notes of this beer are what make it really special to me - my only reference are witbeirs and certainly the peel of one orange in 23L of wit is pretty subtle. I'll go for two of each.
I'll dry hop after 2 days - add citrus at the same time I guess...

Yeast - recipe calls for Wyeast 1056 (as do the vast majority of recipes in the DIY Dog book!). I don't have that kicking around but I have WLP051 so I'll use that. A bit less attenuation aparrently.

Good call with using 2 of each. I used 2 grapefruit in my last APA and could definitely use more. First time using them so I was playing it safe.

Whenever I have tasted this, the grapefruit really stands out. If I was to brew it, I would probably aim for more than 2 grapefruits (personally).

It really is quite potent isn't it, I'd hate to under do it. I'm heading to the brewery tomorrow night for a pint - I'll see if I can find anyone to ask!

I'm planning a 19L batch for a corny and am thinking about going in with 4 grapefruits.

Appreciated Floyd.

Was up at the brewery tonight - 10 mile cycle each way which was a bit brutal but a few cracking beers - Live Dead Pony Club, Pump Action Poet and the V2 of their NEIPA with Cloudwater - all smashing, and a great pizza.

Didn't manage to get a chat with a brewer but the barman assured me that the orange is dried peel added at the lauter stage. For the grapefruit they make an extract on their pilot kit and add that.

Not sure that helps me really, guess I'll need to go again :)

I seriously doubt they use actual grapefruits at the brewery. The cold pressed extract is great stuff, I'd highly recommend that route otherwise you are going to need lots of grapefruit and you'll probabaly still be underwhelemed by the flavour.

Yup. tastes too 'juicy' to have been created with zest only. Maybe 4 grapefruits AND their juice!

Indeed - could the mods do a thread merge perhaps?

I've added a cross ref from the other thread back here. Not sure if merging the 2 would work or just produce a confusing mash up.
