Looks nice! I’m with you on the half hour boils. How long did you mash for? Or was it an extract brew?

I'm quite happy with how it turned out overall. I went with hersbrucker hops to finish instead of the mittlefruh I usually use and it was a good choice.

And to think that it used to be the law that we had mash for 90 minutes, slowly sparge, and then boil for 90 minutesRookie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 2:34 pmI mashed for 40 minutes.bitter_dave wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 8:00 pmLooks nice! Re: 30 minute boil pilsner
I never did 90. I started at 60 and went down to 45 many years ago with no difference in the resulting beer. After moving last year I found myself back in a position to do all-grain again and gave 30 a try with good results.bitter_dave wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 4:42 pmAnd to think that it used to be the law that we had mash for 90 minutes, slowly sparge, and then boil for 90 minutesRookie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 2:34 pmI mashed for 40 minutes.bitter_dave wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 8:00 pmLooks nice! Might be a difference between the UK and US. UK books used to be based on 90 min boil.Rookie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 2:34 pmI never did 90. Re: 30 minute boil pilsner
120 min boil today. Missed my boil gravity by a country mile so boiled longer. Still way short on OG, but it’ll be beer.
I think I know why…I tried underletting the mash in my grainfather without stirring - thought I’d read somewhere that it was a good idea. It’s not. When I emptied the mash pipe, there were obvious dry-ish clumps. Won’t be doing that again!

Re: 30 minute boil pilsner
We do have solar panels which helps a bit, but the smart meter certainly shows me the days I’ve brewed.
In fact I had to do another 12pm in boil last weekend when I made an American barley wine and missed my target gravity. Despite boosting it with some invert sugar I had in stock, I still extended the boil to get close to my target.
The worst thing was the charring on the base of the GF. Took quite a bit of scrubbing to remove it!
