Help - Beer tower line assistance (UK/US Differences??)

Post by oktaneza » Tue Dec 30, 2014 5:25 pm

I am currently building a kegerator that will house 2x Crusader kegs (Sankey) and it will run up through the top of the fridge into a beer tower which houses 2x Perlick 650SS taps. The barb at the back of the tap is a 3/16" barb. It came fitted with tubing (http://imgur.com/a/51u09

Pic 1 - Original US 3/16 pipe and the taps shank & barb Image
Pic 2 - Original US 3/16" pipe and a UK 3/8" pipe (From Barney) Image
Pic 3 - Original US 3/16" pipe and UK 3/16" pipe (From Barney) Image
Pic 4 - UK 3/16" pipe actually slides into the barb and even if I heated it, there is no ways I am going to get it over the top of the barb Image

Clearly there is a difference in our 3/16" pipe and US (possible they are measuring the internal diameter and we are measuring the external. So my question is

a.) Do I try change the barb and Shank -- OR --
b.) Do I change the size of the tube, it looks like its 1/4"

Any suggestions would be really useful

I've just hooked up a system for the first time also. As far as I know US imperial is the same as UK. I would ditch the barb and go for a JG fitting. Beer line is far too stiff to fit over a barb. From what I can see in your pics, the tap is a Dalex which a JG will fit onto perfectly.
Best wishes

So I had feedback from the vendor. Where I got it wrong was the difference between ID (inner diameter) vs OD(outer diameter). Now that I understand that the barb is a 1/4" barb. So what I am going to do is use a John Guest push connector onto the barb (assume this will be ok). The plan is

- 1/4 " JOhn Guest reducing elbow to 3/8" which will go onto the barb
- 3/8" stem to 3/16" reducer which will plug into the elbow
- 3/16" OD pipe to plug into John guest fitting and then run to the sankey beer out
