Swing top bottles

Post by chris20 » Sun Jun 28, 2015 7:06 pm

I'm looking to make my first Belgian style ale so am after some swing top bottles that can take that level of carbonation. Does anyone know of a good supplier? The Wilko ones say not suitable for carbonated drinks on their website but I don't know if they are just covering there backs. Also ideally 330ml but 500ml will do if not.

Not sure of the cost of the Wilko's ones, but maybe see if your local pub stocks swing top Grolsch and ask them to leave them by for you?

World of Bottles will be about the cheapest option but delivery will bump it up - http://www.world-of-bottles.co.uk/shop/ ... ottle.html

You can keep an eye out for when Aldi/Lidl have the German beers in which usually work out at about £1.50 with free beer included.

Other options are Beers of Europe - http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/flensburger-pilsener
or The homebrew shop sell the at around £1.50 each.

Cheers for the suggestions. I'll have a word when I'm next down my local to see if they have any. I forgot about ebay, there appears to be a fair few sellers of grolsch bottles so that might be an alternative. I had looked at world of bottles but as you say postage bumps it up.

Nobody has mentioned this but be aware the green glass swingtops (eg Grolsch) don't offer enough protection from light to prevent "skunking" of the hops. If you can store your brew in darkness til point if consumption that's not an issue, but something to keep in mind. I know "The Range" were selling boxes of 750cl brown swingtops while back at £9.99 for 12 but that may have gone now. Worth a look if you have one local tho

Brouland seem to have a good selection of flippies....

Postage will be a killer - but with the rapidly weakening Euro it may just become a viable thing in the coming weeks. Note they also do the sought after 33CL flippies too....
