Harry Mason beer engine disassembly
Harry Mason beer engine disassembly
Has anyone taken one apart to fix it? I have a couple, one of which has the tendency to get stuck somehow, so I want to take it apart to have a look. I've got the cylinder out from the body of the pump, but I can't see how to actually get inside it. Does anyone know how? I think it's an 'Aston' model, but it has a cooling jacket and I can't see if the cylinder is glass or not.

Have you got some pictures of the beer engine?
Re: Harry Mason beer engine disassembly
I just contacted Masons and they say the cylinder doesn't come apart?? This is nonsense because they sell a replacement rubber seal kit and tops and bottoms for the cylinder.

It looks like the cylinder tops are push fit. Reassembly at 9:50. And he breaks it so not the best video but you might be able to find a video taking it apart.
I didn’t know they have a metal cylinder, that’s nice!

Re: Harry Mason beer engine disassembly
Mason's staff were very helpful when requesting items and information to convert a Shakespeare beer pump to a standard beer engine with cylinder. My memory of those events is now rather vague, but was told my new quarter pint cylinder with cooling jacket cannot be stripped and would need total replacement if it failed. I seem to think the design proved flawless pulling a million pints, or something like that.
I have it in mind that their water cooled jacketed cylinders design might have been modified to reduce production costs, and maybe older designed cylinders with cooling jacket can be stripped.
With the cylinder out, does the pump still stick, or might the problem be alignment?
Without patience, life becomes difficult and the sooner it's finished, the better.

Thanks for the video Trefoyl. It doesn't show how he got the top and bottom off unfortunately, but they obviously just push-on. I'll be careful!
Eric, I'll try the cylinder without putting it all back together first to see if it works okay outside of the body of it.
