Keeping Pressure Barrels Cool.

Post by aamcle » Thu Mar 25, 2021 1:41 pm

I have two old 10-12litre PBs that I like, they are simple and easy to use great for beers with lower carbonation like Stout or British Bitter.

However in the absence of a celler or spare fridge keeping them cool in the garage in summer is something I have not managed to do. As a result I only use them in late Autumn through into Spring and don't expect to refill then just now.

Unless I'm fortunate enough that somebody can post up a way to keep them cool?

Any help??

Thanks All. Aamcle

There are lots of variations.
Google "Swamp cooler" and see if anything helps.

I know about swamp coolers the max out at about 'Ambient - 5°C' and your lucky to get that.

I doubt that what I'd like exists, the convenience of a fridge but without the fridge :)

Oh well..

What about a caravan box?

https://www.diy.com/departments/keter-s ... 851_BQ.prd

Come in various colours /shapes / sizes... But they do fit undercounter white goods. I had a tumble dryer in one.

Used fridges for our projects are not big$ used?

https://www.geterbrewed.com/ferminator-basic/

Although if you make space in the Garage you could always fit another fridge, a larger one would let you fit 2 kegs in. Image

Good question.
I think there is a market for it, there must be a fair few who don’t have room for a permanent fermenting fridge but are able to set this up as a temporary solution at times and then shove it away in the loft.

Sadly the Keter store doesn't cool and the grey thing although it looks good is very costly.

I should have said cheap in my 1st post.

Sorted the problem was rampant stupidity not equipment ..... 😱

They don't get cool enough in my opinion, & I don't think they are a cost effective fermenter solution.

As a temporary fermenting fridge. Heat mat + sleeping bag + InkBird. Also available in a three beer crate size :D :D for when you have Primed & bottled, and cannot be assed to drag the crates back into the house for secondary fermentation

Are you pulling my leg :D
The Keter store was storage to cover a used but serviceable fridge in.....

PS You do know it is compulsory to share rampant stupidity :D

I told you brain rot!

Some time ago a relative passed me one of the small beer fridges he'd moved on to bigger things, it's too small to ferment/ condition/ or put PB in so I've just ignored it. Now he has a garage I had been thinking of giving it back but I checked today the 1/2 size barrels will fit :) :) :)
