Dirty bottles

Post by MashBag » Mon Jul 04, 2022 8:23 am

I am more than happy to give beer away. Sometimes a couple of bottles, sometimes more.

I always ask for the bottles back to reuse.
"The beer is a gift the bottle is a loan" is a phrase I like.

They do come back generally & I am currently soaking a dozen or so bottles that are filthy & with spot mould.

Is it unreasonable to expect clean bottles back?

I've side-stepped your problem as I'm using PET bottles now. My son drinks my beer when they visit at the weekend and I sometimes send him home with a couple of litres ... but they do provide me with a constant supply of empty 2 litre cola bottles. Why not fill a couple of PETs each brew as you can always drink them yourself if you don't give them away?

But yes, I'd expect clean glass bottles back.

I don't think it's unreasonable at all. I have a simple solution to this - dirty bottles = no more beer for you!

I also give away plenty of my beer. Most of my "customers" understand that I like (even expect!) to receive the bottles back clean. A simple rinse to remove the remaining beer and yeast is all that is required and saves the pain of having to soak the bottles and/or scrub them clean. :@

Thanks chaps. I like the idea of PET bottles. Tonic water bottles would work.
