Finlandia kit & sugar - is it enough?

Post by Scotty » Tue Dec 16, 2008 3:45 pm

Ey up,

Bought a Finlandia lager kit the other day and just about to crack on with the brew and noticed the amount of sugar to be used. For a light beer it states 200g of sugar for 25l or 600g and 20l for a medium strength beer. Is this enough?

Would it be ok to meet halfway and use 400g for 23l?

Plus the instructions aren't the clearest! #-o

400grams of sugar for 23 litres is fine, it will be weak, and perhaps a little watery? I'd go for maybe 500 grams.

Don't know the kits at all but most kits require 1kg of sugar to make a regular strength beer at 23 litres. If you have a hydrometer you can check your gravity at the start and as my more sugar as needed to gauge what kind of a strength beer you'll get at the end of fermentation.
Planning - Not for a long while
