Brewferm Abbey Ale, Candi sugar?

How do chaps,

could someone tell me whether there is a difference between candi sugar and brewing sugar that they sell at my Local HBS ? Im sure there is but having googled the topic i cant really find whether it would be detrimental to my brew if i dont use candi sugar? This is my very first belgian ale kit and I am determined that I do it as best as possible so that I know whether its worth doing another. I absolutely adore belgian beer so if this is successful i am going to be a very happy man!!! The kit suggests that you do not HAVE to use the candi sugar but is suggestive that it would be best to do so, and like i say, i want to do whatever is best on this one......? Please help !

Please could someone enlighten me with regards to the use of candi sugar and whether i need to use it?

anyway, I did it with unrefined ordinary household sugar (it's what we have) - it turned out fine.

As a matter of interest, how long before you tried your Brewferm Abbey beer? I tried a bottle the other night (it's been in bottles since 2nd November) and it was pretty poor. Definitely tasted beery but there was a horribly acrid bitter aftertaste, really unpleasant.

Got other stuf to drink, but this was my first Brewferm kit, so hoping it comes out well.

Candy sugar is generally preffered for Belgian Beers. Feck if i know why, but from what i've read/heard it just creates better taste/body :lol:

Although yes when i brewed this, i used ordinary sugar and it taste gorgeous.
