Brewers,
I brewed my second kit last Friday.
It was a brewers choice best bitter (as recommended on this forum). I went with option 2 and added 1 kg spraymalt.
The brewday went well and i got an OG of 1.049.
The fermenting went off really well, with a good layer of foam on the top.
I took a hydro reading today as the fermenting appears to have stopped (there are no bubbles or foam). It came out higher than I'd imagine at 1.016.
The kit instructions do not have a final gravity to aim for.
Should I bottle it now or give it a gentle stir and try and restart the yeast?
As a bit of a noob do you always try and finish with an FG of 1.014 or lower?
Using Grahams beer engine calculators the alcohol level seems good, but I don't want to have any exploding bottles because I have bottled it with too high an FG reading.

Wait until you get the same SG reading two days running.

Badger,
What do you suggest I do if tomorrows SG reading is the same as today's?

Bottle/keg it or leave it for a few extra days as you prefer. I suspect it still has a little bit to go yet though.gaztop wrote:Badger,

The three Brewer's Choice kits I've done have all got down to 1.014/3 - and taken 7+ days to do it.
I leave all mine in the fermenter for 14 days (or more) anyway. They do seem to slow down at the end. I wouldn't worry.

Re: Brewers choice Final Gravity
I've got a brewers choice best bitter made with 1kg glucose in fermentation at the moment. Starting at 1042, after 5 days it reached 1015, then has dropped by 1 point every day, 9 days in it's 1010 and still seeing the odd bubble on the surface. Should be settling down now - good to see from other posters that slow is normal for these kits. My last brew was a coopers dark ale that erupted and finished after a few days, so this is a little different.
