I agree with kev, I made mine with 1 kilo medium and 300 grams dextrose.KevP wrote:Coopers dark Ale was my best ever kit, made with 1kg Medium Spramalt, drinkable almost instantly, its a fine brew that, for my palate, bettered Coopers Stout, ymmv.
Coopers Dark Ale - any recommendations ?

Hi all!
Just to let you know I put the Coopers Dark Ale on last night...
Slight change of plan... I managed to obtain 3 Coopers Dark Ale kits at a good price so I decided to do an experiment to see which additional fermantables make the dark ale I prefer...
This first one was made with 1kg of BKE up to 22l OG 1040
The next one will use 750g DDME + Brewing sugar (500g maybe)
then the final one will be a full 1kg of DDME + 300g sugar...
I'll let you know how it gets on...

Slainte!

Re: Coopers Dark Ale - any recommendations ?
I recently made a Coopers Dark Ale with 1Kg of Dark Spray Malt. It is very nice but the problem is that I do not find it as tasty as Coopers Stout made with Medium Spray Malt. It seems a little too bitter wheareas the Coopers Stout is very smooth. This may be perhaps because I used DARK spray malt rather than MEDIUM.
It seems as if the Dark Ale is a halfway house between an Ale and a Stout. I am not sure I really want to make another batch because I might as well just make a Stout or an Ale.
Just my opinion or course.
Currently conditioning a John Bull IPA with 1Kg light spray malt. Very promising ... (I tasted a bit during bottling and it was good even then).
