lively brew

Post by Deneeve » Tue Dec 22, 2009 9:28 pm

Yesterday i put a muntons premium bitter in the FV and...not even 24 hrs in... WOW!!!!! its gone all quatermass on me, is this normal? It smells quite erm.. pungent, but in a good way.
As usual i've got a heat belt on it and its stood on a chair in my kitchen.. Due to the recent cold weather the heating has been on fairly constant, could this make any differance?
One question, as it seems to have took off so quickly will it be ready for secondary fermentation quicker?
Cheers :D

Since your brew is a relatively low gravity one I don' t really see the benefit of transferring into a secondary. The beer is most likely going to be ready for bottling within 10 days, naturally assuming that it has reached a proper FG reading and you should be good to go without having to worry about off flavours from the trub.

Thanks for that ozzy, it seems to have calmed right down now mate. I had a sneeky peek and what i saw was a million tiny bubbles rising constantly in a caramel coloured sea (quite poetic me thinks) and smelling divine... :D
