Muntons Heavy Highland

Post by mestruga » Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:26 am

Hi there brewmates,

I've recently bought this kit and I am confused about the priming instructions.
Don't you think that 85 g per 5 UK gallons is too little sugar? Would I get a flat beer?

Any experience and further comments you may have with this would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Sounds fine Marc :) For a kegged ale I use 75-100g sugar. If you're kegging it then there's a limit to the pressure a pressure barrel can take anyway before it vents off gas so it's never going to get really fizzy. If you want fizz it's bottles you want and higher amounts of sugar but I'm figuring that kind of beer isn't going to want to be too fizzy anyway. Even 80-100g sugar in a bottle will seem noticably more gassy than the same amount of priming when dispensed from a keg if the priming sugar has fully fermented out. I'd be tempted to stick with the recommendations for that kit :)

You're welcome mestruga :) Let us know how the beer tastes when it's ready for drinking, would love to hear some opinions about this kit

Hi,

I always prime with 100g (3.5 oz) and have excellent carbonation.

that's the ball park I normally aim for but the accuracy or rather lack of is usually determined by my wobbly hand
