Adding spray malt: When and Which?

Post by Hoppkins » Thu Jan 25, 2007 10:52 am

Ok so i made fixby gold. It was nice but still missing something. It was very drinkable but didnt quite seemed to have that satisfying...something pub beer has.

Dont get me wrong it was great and im proud of it but im looking at ways of improving my beers.

Is adding spray malt to a 3kg kit advisable? Will it ruin the gravity and % content?

Which spray malt is adviseable for which kinds of beers?

Thanks :)

i tried my wherry when it was kegged and it was plesant. I tasted it last night after almost 2 weeks in keg and it was....different.

Not unpleasant but it was not what i would describe as good.

My other beers tasted mostly ok after 2 weeks. Think it just needs longer?

So the concencus is DONT add 1kg of spray malt to 3kg kits? Steep some hops instead?> Any recommended hops?

SOrry Daab, just want to confirm a couple of things :)

By > 20 do you mean 20 grams or 20 actual hops?

And by steep do you mean just add them and leave them in the water mix for that long?
