From bottle to cornie...?

Post by Operator » Mon Mar 22, 2010 5:20 pm

I have a batch of St Peters Ruby Red which I bottled for a change (I normally keg) I primed with 75g of brewing sugar using a bottling bucket. They had over a week in the warm then about 3 weeks so far in the cool to condition. I tried a bottle a couple of days ago and the taste is fine but its flat as a witches tit :(

I am guessing this is due to leaving the brew in the fv for too long before bottling, around 14 days due to lack of time...

I was wondering if any one had tried carefully decanting into a cornie and force carbing to give a bit of life? The risks would be oxidisation or infection but I thought it might work if I was careful about sterilisation and gave a good squirt of co2 into the cornie prior to pouring.

If not Ill still drink it flat, I dont like my ale fizzy but I do like a bit of life in it.

Any suggestions as always gratefully recieved. :D

No 14 days is fine. I've left mine a lot longer than that with no ill effects. Try storing it somewhere warmer for a time and try another bottle just in case it was a one off?

I've bottled after 4 weeks and had carbonation in the bottle, so 14 days is about right IMO to reduce sediment in the bottle

I tried another bottle today (just to test of course =P~ ) and it had a touch more life in it. I'll move them somewhere warm for a bit to see if it helps. Still tastes good though. It was in the warm for over a week so Im not sure what the issue was.
