Work colleague - first brew

Post by Andy » Mon Jan 29, 2007 3:27 pm

Well, heard this morning about a colleague's first kit attempt....

He found a huge container and decided to boil the entire wort volume, transferred to fermenter and then realised it was quite hot still

He pitched the yeast while the wort was at about 45 degC  then panicked a bit and pitched some bread yeast when the temp was below 30 degC

Apparently the beer now has a head on it though, bet it smells of Hovis....

Chances of the results being drinkable ?

The kit was a Brupaks Fixby Gold.

My guess would be that if he didn't burn it during the boil and if the fermentation temp has been held below 20 C it will be drinkable. My main worry would be that it has been fermented in the airing cupboard or somewhere equally as warm. If so and it only tastes like Hovis he's been lucky

I gave him some guidance on where to place the fermenter so hopefully he shouldn't have it sat on top of a radiator.

I will keep you informed of progress
