ive had my first homebrew on since saturday evening, it come to a good head by late sun but on looking just now the head has already subsided after just 3 days-ish, is this the norm it says on the box 4-6 days for fermentation

Don't worry the yeast head will subside as fermentation slows down towards the end :)
Your hydrometer is a much more reliable indication of fermentation progress than watching the yeast head or bubbles through an airlock 8)
Buy yourself a dip tube or turkey baster to take samples with, both are easy to sanitise. Taking samples is also a good way to get sneaky tasters
