Sanitizing equipment
Sanitizing equipment
When sanitizing equipment such as FVs and pressure barrels is it ok to leave the sanitizing solution in the FV/pressure barrel with the lid on for a day or so and will the solution still be viable ie not need replacing again prior to rinsing and brewing.
Re: Sanitizing equipment
I suppose it depends what you are using to sanitise, I use thin bleach and keep it in the FV for a week sometimes and I have never had any problems.twentyfootwilf wrote:When sanitizing equipment such as FVs and pressure barrels is it ok to leave the sanitizing solution in the FV/pressure barrel with the lid on for a day or so and will the solution still be viable ie not need replacing again prior to rinsing and brewing.
Re: Sanitizing equipment
I use Youngs cleaner/sterilizer which smells like a bleach based cleaner.
Re: Sanitizing equipment
I also use thin bleach at a rate of 1/2 a cup per fv full of water.
I can leave stuff in it for up to a week before I empty it out.
No problems yet.

Re: Sanitizing equipment
I think I'll try the thin bleach Wilkinson's have it at 28p for a litre, a lot cheaper than the designated brewing sterilizer!
Re: Sanitizing equipment
Thin bleach here, too. On a brew day I use a batch to sanitise the kit and the FV, I then store it in the keg while the beer ferments. After kegging, it goes back into the cleaned-out FV and then it goes down the bog. 2 litres lasts about 8 brews.
Re: Sanitizing equipment
I use bleach for cleaning/sanitizing fermenters and 5% iodine solution dissolved at rate 10ml/10l for sanitizing bottles/caps
