Hi,
Can anyone tell me if Woodforde's Admiral Reserve and Norfolk Wherry is a good brew to do, and any good tips with it? Also how much sugar should i add to prime it when transfering it to the barrel for conditioning? Thanks
Woodforde's Admiral Reserve/Wherry question?
Re: Woodforde's Admiral Reserve/Wherry question?
I have done Admirals Reserve yet, its on the list to do though!
I have done two Wherrys now. The first one tasted great but I had drunk it all before it had properly cleared. The second one is still conditioning now. I tried it and it had a Hoegaarden after taste. However asking the question of here suggests its the yeast and it needs to clear further. Its been conditioning for 6 weeks now, and probably needs a month or two more!
So in essence, excellent beer but as most two can kits, they take a long time to clear.
Search these forums too, there loads on info on Wherry especially.
Oh, and 85g of sugar to prime in the barrel.
Cheers.

The Wherry's a smashing pint. I just tasted one of mine last night, 4 weeks in the bottle, my second attempt. Already it's lovely. Hasn't cleared yet but things look good. Lovely creamy head all the way down. I primed very sparingly though - not a fan of fizzy ale - between a quarter and half teaspoon of unrefined sugar.
Wherry was my first brew and naturally t'was nearly all supped about 6 weeks after bottling!

Re: Woodforde's Admiral Reserve/Wherry question?
I've been trying kits recently, as time is being spent on equipment upgrades instead of brewing at the mo. You picked my two favourites so far - wherry is a very decent pint and so is the admirals reserve, I'd say both are equally good but different - the reserve seems to have more body and a bit more sweetness than the wherry. I've not primed them myself though (I force carbonated).
