Milestones bitter hazy/not clearing
Milestones bitter hazy/not clearing
I have a batch of Milestones bitter in the keg, been there four weeks, but it is still hazy ( a problem I experienced with Wherry) is there any solution? Can I add finings if so what type Thanks
Re: Milestones bitter hazy/not clearing
At this stage I wouldn't bother. At 4 weeks, it should be turning into a pretty nice pint. How long did you leave it in the fermenting bucket?
One solution is to accept that cloudy beer tastes just as good as clear beer.

Re: Milestones bitter hazy/not clearing
The brew was in the bucket for 10 days, unfortunately Mrs Bob isn't too keen on cloudy beer hence the finings enquiry

Re: Milestones bitter hazy/not clearing
Some may see the other half as not wanting to sup their beer as a win-win situation, that's another solution
I've also had kegs where the first quarter/third was cloudy, then it was clear - and this is in a top tap keg. I still haven't quite worked out how this works. You could "in the name of sacrifice and research" offer to drink the cloudy portion and you can share the rest.
Or you could wait - up to 10 weeks to drop out is not unheard of.
Or I guess you could add the finings at the risk of introducing oxygen / infection and losing all your natural CO2. You'd have to vent as much pressure as possible (this would quite possible involve drinking a fair bit of it), then towel over the top and open the lid. Unless you've got a slow leak, this is going to make a pop. Introduce your finings (if any, I use the chitosan gel stuff), give it a stir with a sterilised spoon/paddle, trying not to disturb the sediment that has already managed to settle, replace the lid, add CO2, wait a week for it to do its work.
For all the hassle/risk involved, I reckon your best options are:
1) Leave/drink until it pours clear.
2) Force her to wear a blindfold while drinking.
