hi all. Just done a coopers stout with a bk1, tasted it after 7 days in the fv when doing test and it had a plastic smell and taste. Primed it with half a tea soon on the 5th Feb and bottle. Just opened one now and still plastic smell and taste, is this infected or just norm and needs longer in bottles ?

Cragie; 'The powder stuff from the LHBS' will surely sanitise a FV. But, the FV needs 'Washing' before it ever sees a days service. As in, a good dose of boiling hot caustic soda solution. That removes the grease and 'Factory' from it. It also takes away the potential for " Plastic Taste " on the beer.

Now, as ye " Always " clean and rinse with ye powder, I'm taking it this FV's been used before? If so? It's a head wreck. I wouldn't know What's going on there.

If it's a New FV and ye didn't soda wash it? I'd suggest that right there's ye problem.

Put them away to condition properly and try in a month or two. Plastic smell can disappear given time in my experience
