red ale (tweaked) any comments

Post by timbo41 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 10:38 pm

Next brew day going to try this
1 x coopers draught
500g light spraymalt
100g crystal malt
50g crushed roasted barley
25g mount hood 10 min boil 30 min steep
sort of a tweaked Irish Red Ale effort, from a homebrew site that I can't remember name of. Would appreciate any comments. Don't go in for really strong brews like the use of my legs too much :)

I brewed the Coopers Irish Red Ale recipe, which is basically the same but uses APA instead of the Draught.

I brewed to 20L, and it came out about 3.8% from memory, but even though I added some boadicea hops to the recipe, it still lacked flavour for me.

Maybe the Draught kit and the Mount Hood hops will add a bit more to the recipe.

Keep us informed :)

HI MONKEYBREW Yeah chucked ingredients through the beer engine available at top of page and got abv of about 3.9 as you say. Never really messed with extra malt etc so bit unsure of end result myself. Using mt. hood as it seems to be middle range for alpha and I'm told got nice aroma. We shall see!

I did the same, but didn't add the hops.

It's nice. That's it. Nice.

But I won't be doing it again.
