Barons Lime Lager, No krauser, but OG has dropped?

Post by Cozzyb » Fri May 25, 2012 3:13 pm

Hi everyone,

Bought a Barons Lime Lager kit, which is essentially a 6lt bladder of wort, pack of yeast and pack of benzonite.

So followed the guide and mixed it well and OG was 1.042 so pretty good, smelt lovely, five days in and the beer has no krausen whatsoever, I noticed that the yeast I added was out of date this month so added a second not out of date pack 4 days ago, so its had 4 days of fermenting.

So today I looked again no signs of fermenting, however did a hydrometer test and gravity is now 1.010 :/ huh.

There is a small layer of settlement at the bottom but literally no foam, nothing floating and no krausen and almost finished gravity after 5 days?

Can anyone explain this?

Thank you.

Some yeasts dont give a thick krausen and the brew can look rather dormant, but if you dropped points and you see sediment then its working fine.

The heat we have had over the last week will have encouraged a fast fermentation.

Just seen these kits elsewhere. Do they make up to 23 litres and are they worth the £29
