sodium met stench
would appreciate a bit of advice folks. Have recently started using a couple of campden tabs in the liquor for each brew as threads on this forum suggest sodium met good to remove residual chlorine from tap water and also a good preservative. Got three brews on at mo( scottiush export+ extra hops, coopers draught + hop oil sachet and a 12 litre partial mash up using up all leftovr malts and hops from previous extract brew). All treated with campden as above. Trouble is when I've had a sneaky peek earlier they all absolutely reek of( Forgive me) cabbagey farts!!
I know that campdens release sulphur dioxide but didnt expect it to be this bad! Are my brews going to wilt and fall over like i did . Smells like a naughty dog in my brew cupboard a.k.a boiler cupboard.. IS THIS NORMAL FOLKS???

Just like trying new ideas!

Re: sodium met stench
Timbo; I use Campden Tab's in my water. Always have. Does it cause my brews to stink? Dunno. I put the FV's in my back room. Drop the yeast and heaters in and walk away. Just go in there, once a day, to get some horse meal. I don't take a blind bit of notice of the FV's though, beyond a cursory glance.
What I never do is go around sniffing it, like a Dog at a bum display. In fact, I never do anything to my FV's till I'm ready to get amongst them. And they never let me down.
Now, I can appreciate opening a packed cupboard would be different from entering a room. But, I'd suggest adopting the same principle: Just leave them alone and ignore them. If it smells in there? So what? What ye going to do about it? See?
Just give them their ten days, or what ever. Then concern yeself with the next step.
