Coopers European keg conditioning

Post by neilmcca » Sat Aug 11, 2012 2:26 pm

Hello guys
I've just put my first Coopers European into the FV.
used 1 kilo of brew enhancer (first time i've used that too - i usually use dextrose , or just bog standard granulated on the Coopers Australian lager),

2 things bother me though,
being the muppet i am, i steamed in without thoroughly reading the instructions,
i topped it up with water to the 25 litre mark, when it says on the instructions to fill it to 23  so i guess it will still taste ok, just slightly weaker,

secondly, it says to bottle and condition for 12 weeks :o , i will be using a corny, i usually make Coopers Australian lager and force carbonate to get it ready in a few days,
as i only have 5 kegs, i can't really afford to have 1 tied up for 12 weeks,
being in a corny is it likely to be ready in less time, and is it ok to force carbonate the European ?

thanks in advance.

Neil.

The last euro I did I force carbed and was drinking it after 6 weeks.

This time I`m conditioning one in a cube for about 10 weeks and will then put it in a corny and force carb.

What's a cube or is this a spelling error?

Thanks Paul,

6 weeks still seems a long time, though i'm confident it'll be worth it,
think i'll have to get myself some more kegs,
more so because i'm keen to try certain Coopers Stout recipes i've seen on here ! 8)

neilmcca, if your keen to try a Coopers Stout then try the Ditch method. Ferment it for 10 days put it in a corny and start drinking it. I usually give it a whole day to condition then start on it.

crOfty, A cube is a plastic drum. I use 20 ltr ones like these,

I can ferment for 14 days, rack into the cube and let it condition in there till I have a corny empty, then just transfer to the keg and force carbonate to taste.

Hi guys

I bottled an adapted version of coopers euro on 05/07/12. I used two of the kits, along with added steeped lager malt grains, aramis hops boiled in and 1KG sugar. It came out at 8.4%ABV and it's carbed up now, took a while but still conditioning. I tried one about a week ago.....first ever home brew I had to pour away cos it just isn't there yet. I'm not worried though, I think the higher ABV just means that it is going to need the full 12 weeks conditioning, hope it tastes good by then. :S

At 8.4% it`s probably going to want even longer than 12 weeks. Should be worth the wait though, sounds like a very nice drink in the making. Let us know what you think when it`s at it`s peak.
