Hambleton Bard Supreme Lager?

Post by Cozzyb » Mon Jul 30, 2012 12:45 am

Anyone tried this, got mine on the go and just wanted an opnion, also a question.

Sadly due to my cold water being no where near cold enough I had to let the mixed up 20l cool down for a few hours and then add the yeast, it went in when it was sitting on about 28c, but next day had dropped to the 22-18c range and stayed that way since, will I have any issues from first bit of time when it was quite high? i.e. off flavours.

Also is it strange that only 4 days in the gravity is already down to 1.010 and pretty much done bubbling? I know the kit is all dry ingredients so likely less concentrated then a normal kit, but normally my kits go strady for at least 6 days and then still bubble a little for a couple more.

That's REALLY warm for a "lager", which I'm sure explains the speedy primary fermentation. Yeah, you'll likely have some fruity esters and peppery phenols, probably lingering green apple and butterscotch, too, but those aren't necessarily bad things unless you're determined to brew a perfectly neutral light lager. What you've really brewed is a California Common, one of my favorite styles: http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style07.php#1b

It's been awhile. How did it turn out?
