Brewed my julebryg made with Coopers English bitter and 1.5kg of malt extract yesterday morning. Came out with an og of 1.061, and put it in water bath with thermometer... Checked it last night before bed and could see some foam forming, so all good I thought. Read back through instructions and it recommended to put temp at 21'c. I'd only put it in at 18'c. So, got home from work, and checked the strip on side of fv, and it said 14'c... The light on heater was off... So changed temp up a little bit, to 22'c, and gonna go back after dinner to see how it looks then. But, was just wondering if this will have affected the best at all? Hopefully will just have caused it to be a little slower to ferment, and possibly increased chance of infection (hopefully not)...
Any input? Hopefully isn't all wasted...
Stupid aqua heater... Will this be ok?
Re: Stupid aqua heater... Will this be ok?
Don't worry, a lower temp wont do any harm and 18c is okay. There would be a bigger problem if things went the other way and it fermented at too high a temp which could cause some off flavours. The lower end of the scale will just cause the ferment to slow down slightly but generally gives a cleaner finish to the beer.

18 would've been ok, it's just that it came out at 14 apparently. Ordered an aquarium digital thermometer, so hopefully be able to find out the temp of water bath more accurately...

What Wilf said.
Just to add that I think ye right not to trust those vile, stick on strip things either. I never used them, when I kept creatures. I wouldn't use one for my beer either. Hate the f**king things!

Cheers ditch, will hopefully warm up soon. After dinner didn't seem to be much warmer... See how it is on the morning
