Recommend a good stout/porter

Post by AJ_Rowley » Sat Oct 13, 2012 10:45 am

Hey guys,

With my first batch in the FV bubbling away I have been thinking of my next brew. I want to get a nice stout or porter so as to have for Christmas.

Would anyone know which would be a good kit to go for? I was looking at the Muntons Dockland Porter, has anyone tried this one.

On another note, has anyone tried those new beer kits Festival. http://www.hopandgrape.co.uk/public/det ... ES20292840 I was just wondering if they would be worth the investment?

AJ; What I'll be doing for a " Xmass Special " is my usual stuff ~ there's a Sticky at the top of this board ~ But, I'll only make it up to three gallons.

Did it before. By mistake! It's incredible!

Best bit is, it's simplicity itself.

As Ditch suggests try the Coopers Stout, just kegged one last Thurs, tasted great straight out of the fv.

For advise on the festival kits, see this:

Yep, coopers stout all the way. I'm just polishing off a keg of this myself. You should definitely brew it short though.

I was thinking of a spiced stout for xmas but need to get it in this week. Must hurry!

Coopers site has a good selection of stout recipes (adapted kit recipes).

Do Olds count? If so Norfolk Nog, it ages well in a barrel and improves with keeping. Brupaks Scammonden Dark is a nice porter IMHO
