Just put 2 on for XMAS!

Post by alchy » Sun Oct 14, 2012 10:05 pm

I just spent 30 minutes making 2 x 40 pint kits ready for XMAS week.

Woodfordes Wherry a remake as I loved the taste so much.

St Peters Ruby Red always fancied this one and the reviews.

I still have 6 pints of a free with kit yorkshire best bitter left to drink and around 30 pints of Nelsons revenge to keep me going:)

Any plans for XMAS folks any strong XMAS pudding ales like 16.5% I saw here last year:)

Regards Dave

16.5% ?! Jesus f**king wept, Dave! Ye certainly got Your handle right! Image

I'm planning to knock up some pretty vicious stuff, as presents, for a couple of mates of mine ~ and probably one for myself! ~ this year. But, who the hell made anything at 16.5%?! Did they survive it? Are they still capable of posting here?! Scary!

I made a Russian imperial stout. Roughly 12% and already tasty. Not ditch stout tasty but still good. By Christmas should be great.
Fermenting: Russian Imperial Stout experiment, Raspberry turbo cider, Wilko Rose wine, Plum wine

Keg1: Coopers Euro Lager

Keg2: Empty :(

I have three beers for Christmas this year:

1) Brewferm Christmas - bottled in July, so should have benefitted from a nic long maturation. ABV is approximately 7.5%
2) AG Barley wine - My first foray into the world of AG, and decided to go strong to make-up for any potential flavour issues. Bottled six weeks ago. ABV is approximately 8 %
3) Milestone Black Pearl - This will be my emergency standby in case option 2 fails. Brewed short to 18litres, and with a good dollop of treacle. ABV is TBD as it is still fermenting.

Today I also called in at the St Peters Brewery as it's just round the corner from the in-laws, and stocked up on some of the brews that my local supermarket seems reluctant to stock.

Think that's all the bases covered now. [-o<

Should be a very merry Christmas! :D

The airlock's going hey-wire and it smells like Christmas pudding mmm!
...
Edit: Think it might turn out to be cough mixture. Uh oh!

My strongest is my Christmas ale for this year - 7%.

Santa's Winter Warmer, with some fruit and spices chucked in. It's maturing nicely. Not particularly Christmassy but a very flavourful ale nonetheless.

I've got some Brewferm Old Bruin (6.3%) ready for Xmas and hopefully my Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale (7.1%) will be good by then too.

I also just bottled an Extract Robust Porter (5.6%) last night that tasted promising.

Now my 6 month old Russian Imperial Stout (8.5%) made from a Coopers stout kit, is more likely going to be ready for Xmas 2013.
