How to know if a brew is out of date?

When scouring the shed for bottles for my latest brew I stumbled upon two freezer boxes with some Brewferm Ambiorix and Diabolo bottles in it! - At a guess about 6 of each perhaps. From memory these were brewed some time around April 2010.

Both are fairly strong, Ambiorix around 6.5% and Diabolo around 8%. They've been sitting mostly upright, in strong brown bottles, crown capped, under a fridge with a garden chair cover on top - so pretty much dark.

Do you think these would be okay to drink? How would you know if a beer was likely to disagree with you the next day? (Besides obviously a discusting taste and smell)...

I know these Brewferms improve with age but I'm just trying to work out when they start to deteoriate with age. Wondering if 30 months is pushing it!

it should be ok i would say pop a bottle and throw it into a glass (dont smell it from the bottle) and see how it tastes the worst its going to do is give you a bad belly

I hope so! I've just put it in the fridge, and in doing so realised actually have about 16 bottles of the Ambiorix and about 10 of the Diabolo!

I found a bottle of 2 year old Tripel recently, and it tasted great. There were no adverse effects either, so I say just go for it.

Ah okay, well I need to have a go and see what they're like - if these aren't any good for drinking they're the best bottles I have - thick, dark, brown and without labels :)
