APA Tinker

Post by Stomach » Mon Oct 15, 2012 1:27 pm

After a reasonable experiment success, a few tips from Monkeybrew and influence from a thread on here 'suggest me a kit', I managed to put a brew on!

1 Tin of APA
1 KG of Light spray malt
10g Cascade boiled for 20mins
10g Cascade steeped for 20mins

And 20g will be dry hopped after 7 days for 7 days!

I have used US - 05 in the hope to make a Sierra Nevada style beer!

Fingers crossed!

Cheers

Fermenting:-
FV 1 - Festival Spiced Winter Ale
FV 2 - Empty
FV 3 - Empty
FV 4 - Ditches Stout

Drinking:-
Keg 1 - Nothing

Conditioning:-

Bottles - Brewferm Winter Ale
Bottles - Brewferm Triple

Next
Work in progress
Old Tin of Coopers Cerveza
Couple of old tins of stuff to experiment with!

Last night was day 9, not day 7, but I dry hopped 20g of Cascade into the FV.

Its down to 1012 so almost done, so hopefully all the aroma from the dry hop will remain. The taste from the trial jar was promising, bitter but very refreshing taste!

Interestingly, there was still a thin layer of krausen on top which I have never had before, but I have never used US - 05 before, is it that?

Fingers still crossed!!

Cheers

Is it like the skin on a rice pudding?

I've had a 'skin' with US-05 in both AG brews that I have made with it. I had to poke it and sink kit because it caused havoc when syphoning.

Yeah that sounds like a pretty good desription! Must be the action of the yeast in whatever it does! I will do some poking when I come to syphon it! :D

Yeah us 05 has a tendency to leave a small film on top, I wouldn't worry about it it has never bothered me, just leave it a little while longer than usual and it will drop. Save the poking for the mrs :D
