2 can lager kit
2 can lager kit
I am thinking of doing a lager kit next and have even bought some S-23 lager yeast, however in my experience of brewing(limited) 2 can kits are far superior to single ones, having looked on here most recommendations are for coopers lager kits and i can't seem to find any 2 can lager kits.I wish there was a festival lager kit as i have tried a couple of there's to fantastic results.I must add i don't have a brewing fridge but my shed is currently ranging between 10-15 deg so figure it will be fine in there for a lager.

Hi
The only problem with a 2 can lager brew, is that you will be doubling the kit bitterness and hop flavours.
To be honest, any Coopers lager kit brewed to 20L with 1kg of light DME at low temps will be good.
I would recommend the Pilsener kit as it has good flavour and comes with a lager yeast that you can chuck in aswell as your s-23.

Re: 2 can lager kit
As Monkeybrew reccomended the coopers pils is the best lager kit I've come across so far, I'd leave out the s-23 though.
It's not the cheapest but Wyeast 2042 Danish is my favourite (so far) yeast, still trying others.

Can I recommend the Muntons Gold continental Pilsner? It's a two can kit which I made with the S23 yeast and turned out quite quench able. It's a good base for tinkering with and as such I'm now brewing this again with 1oz Saaz boiled for 10 mins then a further oz at flameout for 15 mins. Smells wonderful!

Re: 2 can lager kit
Thanks for the replies, due to my LHBS being closed I had to use wilko so in the end chose a wilko pilsener kit,was either that or a coopers plain lager. Anyhow I have made it with 500g of cane demera sugar and have short brewed to 15 litres only as the s-23 lager yeast said 2 packets per 23-30 liters at 12 deg so since i only had 1 pkt thought i had better do 15 ltr max.I have some whole saaz hops which i plan to dry hop after initial fermentation as died down, How much would be the right amount in this batch and do they need boiling before adding in a hop bag?

Re: 2 can lager kit
Cheers Seymour, it'll be great to see the difference with the hop addition, I can't wait to try it I'll let you know how I get onseymour wrote:Of course you can, that's what this place is all about!
