I think if I get a moment tonight, I may put one of my Brewferms on with golden syrup.

any tips on adding the syrup? Or even weiginh it out? I have a jar of 650g Morrisons finest and as the recipe calls for 500g, I imagine its a bit messy to try and weigh out in its normal state.

Does anyone warm it up? Or just chuck in the 650gs?

Cheers

I finally got around to doing this a couple of weeks ago. I went for doubling up and using two of the trippel kits to make it up to 18l. I went for a 680g jar of morrisons cheapest (the value range or whatever) golden syrup with 1kg of light spraymalt. I obviously haven't tasted it yet though, can't report back for another 3 months on the results.

I dissolved the spraymalt in a pan of boiling water and then chucked in all the syrup, and rinsed out the jar with more boiling water from the kettle, then put it all into the fermenter with the 2 cans. I'd agree with you that weighing out golden syrup would be a somewhat messy affair!

I just pop the lid off and bung it in the microwave for 1 minute on high - makes the syrup a lot easier to pour :) I tare the scales with the brewing jug on and measure out, washing the dregs out with some boiling water.

Would I use gram for gram the same weight in GS as I would sugar?

Think the general rule is treat it like DME and liquid malt extract or basically a whole jar of smart price gs will do (near 700g) watch out Tate and lylle is only 400g

Dry sugar quantity plus 20-25% depending on your taste (eg: 1200g syrup to 1000g dry sugar)
