where do i put my brew bucket?
where do i put my brew bucket?
just about to start my first brew kit and it says to keep the temp at a constant!
the only places i can put my tub is either in my boiler cupboard or tucked away in the corner of my dining room?
either of which the missus is going to moan at lol!
my point being my boiler cupboard is relatively warm of course housing the boiler but the corner of my dining room is about 1 foot away from a rad?
was worried that the fluctuating temp of the rad will stress the yeast?
any ideas guys?

Re: where do i put my brew bucket?
I would suggest the boiler would be too warm, go for the corner, wrap it in towels or a sleeping bag, this will help reduce the effect of temperature fluctuations

JA72; I'd suggest the boiler cupboard could actually raise the temperature to the point where, depending on various factors, ye might end up with bother.
Frankly? I'd sooner go for the dining room. Localised presence of a radiator makes it sound like brew heaven, to me.
This is to be your first kit? And you're looking at doing it according to what it says on the label? Okay. Fine. Does it say sling a Kilo of white sugar in there, I wonder?
What ever. Go for it. Make it. Drink the result. Get pissed. We all started similarly.
Just hold on to the thought that ye gear can taste so much better. And it will. Stick around here and we'll show ye how

Re: where do i put my brew bucket?
Yeast likes as steady a temperature as possible, and the target range for ale yeast is normally 17°C - 22°C, i.e. warm house temp. So, as suggested already, near a radiator but nowhere too hot is a good place.
An idea to contain any potential spillages would be to stand the FV in a large rubberised trug. If you want to protect against daily temperature fluctuations, you could try wrapping the FV in tin foil then covering an old/cheap duvet over the FV-trug setup.
Good luck with SWMNBN!

It must be a bit tricky getting a full FV up and down from there.
Sounds like the dining room is your best option, what are you brewing and welcome to Jimsjustabout72 wrote:just about to start my first brew kit and it says to keep the temp at a constant!

Re: where do i put my brew bucket?
Another option may be to site it somewhere that is always colder than you want and use a cheap aquarium heater to keep the temperature up. A garage or a shed is often more conducive to domestic harmony too. Of course, this needs a bit of expenditure and you'd probably want to wrap the bucket in a bit of insulation too (blanket/towels/old coat).
Brew your first one in the dining room and see how it goes but try to keep it away from that rad (or turn down the rad).

The loft!
It must be a bit tricky getting a full FV up and down from there.
To be fair i buy the 5ltr bottles and take 4 up at a time, i usually get tesco to deliver 20 and store them there
i've floored my loft and store all my crates up there too, just a bit up and down when taking bottles and Fv's to clean, but keeps me a bit fitter than i would be

Get yourself an aquarium heater and a builders trug and it won't matter where you put it.
