keg priming
keg priming
is it possible to use this healthy sugar substitue stuff like canderal or whatever its called for priming ? ... the Mrs has gone all healthy after new year and banned sugar
Re: keg priming
Hi mate.
Just done a bit of googling and I think you're out of luck
Aspartame sweeteners, saccharin sweetners and Splenda sweetners are all non fermentables. Some of these, particularly the last, can be used to sweeten excessively dry wines, ciders etc (though there are dedicated wine sweetners in the shopsas well)
I think you'll have to stick with good old sugar or some form of malt derivative.... Maybe you could get away with malt extract, they do also sell it in health food shops so it must be alright!

Re: keg priming
Surely all the sugar is converted to alcohol by the yeast?, so there's none left final brew, so you should be alright with the ban!
Re: keg priming
Honey or Golden Syrup are good for priming kegs, 80 - 100g in a little boiling water will sort you right out
