Woodforde Admiral's Reserve
Woodforde Admiral's Reserve
Making this up, this weekend. Its brew day number 3 of the year. I know we short brew the 2 can kits to 21 litres to get the advertised alcohol and good body. So what to people brew this too. I'm want to brew it to the style and get in around the 5.5%.

I think that you will do yourself a favour if you add a kilo of spray malt to the kit. I have found that they turn out rather thin unless you dress them up a bit. Even better is doing a mini-mash with some pale malt but that adds much more time to your brew day.

The wherry I done turned out really well short brewed to 21 litres. Doing these as is so that next time round will try dry hopping etc to see how they improve. So I have a base level.

I'm down to my last bottle of this now
, brewed it to the instructions and it's the best kit I've had so far.

Re: Woodforde Admiral's Reserve
When they re branded this kit, it went from 40 to 32 pints (18L), so I would imagine that the FG would be relatively high.
I would have thought that you could get away with adding 250g of dextrose to it to bump up the ABV a little, without negatively affecting the body of the brew.
I've got this kit to brew for winter 2013, so I will be interested here how it turns out

Re: Woodforde Admiral's Reserve
Will let you know, will brew it to 17 litres I think with no additions, see how it turns out have another thanks to the great Dunelm sale ( along with 2 wherry's, sundew ale and Norfolk nog )
. That way will know what tinkering I can do with it like more sugar/malt extract and dry hopping
